Identify someone in your life who comes from a different cultural background than your own. Spend 5-10 minutes asking them questions about their culture, with a particular focus on how this relates to their experiences within the healthcare system. You may need to draft some interview questions before you begin.
The aim of this exercise is to not only learn about cultures different than your own, but to practise how you may show empathy and care towards a person as they share their experiences.
Examples:
1. How would you describe your experiences within the
healthcare system (e.g., in a hospital)?
​2. Do you believe that [an aspect of their culture] resulted
in you being treated more or less favourably?
